Frequently Asked Questions:

What does Guard Dog Secure do?

Guard Dog Secure provides vacant property security nationwide across the United States. We protect homes, vacation houses, rentals, and commercial buildings with reusable galvanized steel panels instead of plywood. Our patented system defends against squatters, vandalism, fire, and storm damage — while often costing less than traditional board-up services. Because our panels are reusable, clients benefit from both stronger protection and lower long-term costs. We are active from California to North Carolina- available in your state!

1. Are Guard Dog Secure panels code compliant?

Yes. Our steel security panels meet code requirements for vacant properties nationwide by preventing unauthorized access while remaining a temporary, removable installation. When your property no longer needs protection, if rented we remove the panels at no additional charge, or if you purchase, easy to remove.

2. Do I own the panels once Guard Dog Secure installs them?

If you purchase panels, yes! If you rent Guard Dog Secure panels, you do not. GDS will maintain the panels for property owners, managers, or their representatives. For rentals, we provide installation, inspections, and removal services nationwide to ensure your property stays compliant and secure until it is reoccupied.

3. Why not just use plywood board-up services?

Plywood is easy to tamper, deteriorates in inclement weather, vulnerable, and often more expensive over time. Guard Dog Secure offers a stronger, reusable, fire-resistant alternative that clamps from the inside, making removal extremely difficult. Unlike “fit and forget” plywood services, we partner with clients across the U.S. to ensure properties remain protected.

4. Do I really need to board up my house?

Yes. Vacant properties — whether in a city, suburb, or rural area — are prime targets for squatters, vandals, and arson. They also draw the attention of code enforcement, which can issue fines to property owners. Boarding up with Guard Dog Secure keeps your property safe, compliant, and free from nuisance violations. It’s best to pay little upfront vs. any legal costs, repairs or replacements.

5. Does Guard Dog Secure guarantee my property won’t be broken into?

For legal reasons, no company can make that claim. However, our experience shows that squatters often give up after failing to defeat our steel panels — even attempting walls or roofs instead. Our system is one of the toughest deterrents available nationwide.

6. Once my property is secured, how do I access it?

Our window panels clamp from the inside, preventing access through windows or doors. However, Guard Dog Secure offers a steel security door with keypad access, allowing contractors, realtors, and property owners safe entry. Think of it as a reinforced Realtor’s lockbox.

7. Will your installation damage the building?

No major damage. Our fastening system attaches to structural timber or masonry from the exterior only. We may need to drill into stucco to anchor panels, but all holes are filled upon removal. Owners may choose to repaint, but we never damage internal walls.

8. Can you board up a property that already has squatters inside?

No. It’s illegal to board up a property while people are legally or illegally inside. When trespassers are present, Guard Dog Secure works with local code enforcement agencies nationwide to ensure the property is vacant before installation.

9. How do I pay for Guard Dog Secure’s rental service?

We charge a one-time installation fee plus a monthly rental and service fee. All costs are provided upfront in your estimate. Payments can be made securely via credit, debit, or PayPal recurring billing.

10. What if I miss a rent payment?

Contact us right away. We understand unexpected situations happen and will work with you to bring your account current. Our goal is to keep your property protected, not penalize you.

11. My property no longer needs security. What should I do?

Simply call, text, or email us with at least 72 hours’ notice, and we’ll schedule a free removal of the panels.

12. There’s a vacant house in my neighborhood with squatters. What can I do?

If you know the property owner, share their contact details with us — we’ll reach out directly. If not, contact your city or county Code Enforcement office to report the nuisance. Guard Dog Secure frequently partners with local officials across the U.S. to secure unsafe properties.
